This innovative approach allowed for a more detailed and naturalistic artistic expression, contrasting significantly with the earlier black-figure style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-1573a701\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">An innovative ceramist<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The painter of And\u00f3cides (as he is known to differentiate him from the Attic speaker) was an apprentice of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ceramicartis.com\/en\/exequias\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6679\">Exekias<\/a> <\/strong>, a master of <a href=\"https:\/\/ceramicartis.com\/en\/greek-black-figure-pottery\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"8007\"><strong>black figure style<\/strong><\/a> , distinguished himself not only for his skill as a potter but also for his innovative vision. Although his works are considered inferior to those of his mentor, his contribution to the art of ceramics was crucial. The <a href=\"https:\/\/ceramicartis.com\/en\/red-figure-pottery\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"8002\"><strong>red figure style<\/strong><\/a> that he developed revolutionized the way figures and scenes were depicted on Greek ceramics.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/toah\/hd\/vase\/hd_vase.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-6d4cf63e\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">His &#8220;revolutionary&#8221; painting technique<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The red-figure technique involved painting directly on the body of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ceramicartis.com\/en\/greek-amphora-ancient-ceramics\/\">amphora <\/a><\/strong>or vessel with an engobe that turned red when fired. This technique allowed greater freedom and precision in the details, in contrast to the black-figure method, where the details were engraved on a dark background. The firing process, which included three stages and changes in the kiln atmosphere, was essential to achieve the desired effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-c8026538\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">Emblematic works<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of And\u00f3cides&#8217; best-known works include amphorae depicting Dionysos and his maenads, as well as mythological scenes involving heroes such as Heracles.
