Always consult the instructions that come with your ceramic plate, bowl or cup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the elements of our tableware can be put in the microwave, however there are pieces that, due to the type of ceramic they are made of, can suffer cracks with use, or even breakage due to sudden changes in temperature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, due to the nature of these ovens, the composition of our tableware must be taken into account, as explained below. Therefore it is the manufacturer who has to guarantee its safe use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container uagb-block-2126d7c5 alignfull uagb-is-root-container\"><div class=\"uagb-container-inner-blocks-wrap\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-a182ce73\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">Why are there ceramics that cannot be microwaved?<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>First, let&#8217;s see how these ovens work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Microwave ovens work by using a type of electromagnetic radiation with a specific frequency (2.45 gigahertz GHz, to be &#8220;scientific&#8221;) that vibrates molecules of water, fat, sugar and other common ingredients in food to produce heat (heat is still vibration of the molecules).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, these microwaves when they encounter metal are &#8220;reflected&#8221;, not as in the case of food that are absorbed. This is dangerous especially if there are sharp or pointed parts, because then between them an electric arc can be produced (that is, a current that &#8220;jumps&#8221; from one part to another) causing the famous sparks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It happens that some ceramic pieces may have certain amounts of metal in their composition causing them to overheat. Or worse, they may have metal on their surface, either in the glaze or in decorations, which can cause microwaves to cause &#8220;problems&#8221;. First, always be careful not to overheat them. Secondly, be aware that some ceramics are not microwave safe: do not microwave these materials! They can heat up too quickly and cause them to crack. Be sure to read the manufacturer&#8217;s instructions before using a ceramic item in the microwave. Avoid using bright, brightly colored ceramic dishes in the microwave, as they can overheat.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ceramic dishes, figures and other pieces with metallic paint, decorations or enamels should not be used in a microwave oven without the manufacturer&#8217;s assurance. There are different recommendations from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/hw-sw846\/sw-846-test-method-3052-microwave-assisted-acid-digestion-siliceous-and-organically-based\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EPA<\/a> (Environmental Protection Agency) on which materials can and cannot be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Microwaving ceramics can be a quick and easy way to cook a dish, but it is important to keep in mind that not all ceramic materials are safe for microwave cooking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-ec7334c9\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">How to know if a ceramic dish can be microwaved without a label<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We can compare the piece with another one that we are sure is safe. We put them both in the microwave for one minute at maximum power and, being careful not to burn ourselves, we compare the temperatures of each one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also an indicator is to heat water in the dish, cup or whatever, as a test and then see if the ceramic is hotter than the water or not. If it is hotter it means that it absorbs heat and is not suitable.
